How Derma Sciences MEDIHONEY Closed My Bottom Surgery Fistulas and Cured My Infected Wound
MEDIHONEY is a wound care dressing that contains Leptospermum Honey. Evidence has shown that it aids in removing necrotic tissue and healing wounds. It was also shown that healing time increased for wounds treated with MEDIHONEY compared to conventional dressings.
MEDIHONEY provides a moist environment needed to heal wounds. It is used for several types of wounds, such as those from donor sites and from surgery. It comes in different forms, such as a gel, paste, or combined with other ingredients, etc. and assists with superficial to partial and full thickness wounds that are light, moderate, to heavily draining.
My 3-Stage Bottom Surgery and the four surgeries that followed due to urethral strictures left me with a suprapubic catheter every time. When I no longer needed the catheter, the exit site of the catheter couldn't seem to heal and got infected. The use of antibiotics and cleaning the wound with wound cleanser and wound wash didn't help. That's where I did my research and found out about MEDIHONEY. I had my puncture-like wound for about a month before MEDIHONEY healed it in about a week.
I also encountered fistulas after bottom surgery and had the fistulas that seemed like it kept eating my flesh away even with proper wound care. Fistulas made my recovery feel endless. MEDIHONEY ended that endless feeling. I was relieved.
I have used the gel/paste for my catheter exit site and the Calcium Alginate dressing for my fistulas. TRS provides MEDIHONEY gel, paste, and a Calcium Alginate Dressing and are all featured in the Post-op FTM / MTF / Gender Confirmation Bottom Surgery kits. You can also customize your post-op recovery kit to include this must-have, should a complication arise.
